Accomplish Your New Year's Resolutions

Statistics show that February 15 is the average date in which most people would leave their New Year’s resolutions behind and completely forget about the motivation they had when setting those goals. If you are reading this blog, it means you want to be different from that group.

When it comes to fitness goals, people always look for a quick fix or magic pill that would make them become like their favorite movie star, the reality is that those shortcuts never work for long. To get in shape, lose weight and have a functional and healthy body you need to work every day and have the discipline and commitment it needs. It’s not about just paying a gym or club membership and expect it to happen.

Tips to stay motivated

Create a Routine

Perhaps the simplest way to keep yourself motivated and to stay on track is to keep a regular schedule. By setting a schedule, you will be more likely to complete your training on a regular basis. If you do your training after you get home from work, for example, you will get into the regular routine of doing your training before you sit down on the couch or before you get distracted by responsibilities at home. If you don’t plan for your training and make it something you frequently do, it’s easy to fall out of your training.

Set Martial Arts Training Goals

When undergoing martial arts training, most have the ultimate goal of achieving the highest-ranking or becoming both mentally and physically fit. While it is good to set a long-term goal to set your sights upon, you should also create short-term goals that you can obtain within a shorter amount of time. For example, if you are trying to lose weight, a short-term goal may be to lose 5 pounds. If you are trying to master certain skills, a short-term goal would be to master just one move. As you complete these short-term goals, allow yourself to celebrate and to feel good about your accomplishments. You might even want to keep a martial arts journal so you can track your progress. Then, when you reach a wall of frustration, you can refer back to your journal and remind yourself of the progress you have made so far.

Participate in Competitions

For some people, training to meet certain fitness goals or for self-defense may not provide the motivation that is necessary to stick to a regular routine. If you are one of these people, you might want to consider participating in competitions. If you know you have a competition coming up in a couple of months, you may be more willing to train hard and consistently. After all, no one wants to go to a competition and appear weak and out of shape. Even if you do not participate in formal competitions, competing against your friends may provide you with the motivation you need to keep moving forward.

Taekwondo is a great opportunity to fix your health and accomplish your fitness goals, it is a very popular martial art for that and many other reasons. No wonder why there are more than 20 million practitioners of the art around the world.
